Nanny's Eatery and Garden Bar, The Hutt Burger - 9/10

Nanny's food truck, the source of my highest ranked burger (see earlier post) has a permanent home. And it is in Lower Hutt. And it is only 800 metres from my house. SHOT!!

Nanny's Eatery and Garden Bar, is made up of several tables, set up between the Bar, a pool table, Pokie machines and a kitchen. I think there might be a garden bar down the back but I haven't ventured back there. Also a DJ booth so maybe the place is pumping later at night?

Took the family for dinner after parent teacher interviews and got a table right next to the kitchen. And the Pokie machines. WHY?

Quickly ordered before my wife could change her mind. Two Hutt Burgers, a birdman burger, a kids cheeseburger, ribs, and poutine. 

Just like the food truck, the food took an age to arrive. At least a half hour. With only about four tables occupied, we couldn't quite understand why it took so long. I am guessing there were a few takeaway orders ahead of us. A few jitters and glares but we stayed resolute.

But when the food came (close to an hour later), all was forgiven. The burger was as i remembered. Maybe even better. The pattie was spot on. Juicy, charred, seasoned, substantial. The cheese was melted beautifully. The bun supported and the sauces enhanced. The bacon was crispy and salty. Salad didn't really add (apart from the slice of apple, which added sweetness and crunch.

My wife declared it the best burger she had ever tasted. I nodded my head knowingly. My son devoured his entire "birdman"burger (the chicken burger) which was a feat considering its size. My 5 year old loved his kid-sized cheeseburger. Daughter begrudgingly shared her ribs. The Poutine was delish.

Price wise, the five of us were fed for less than $80, pretty good value for money (although we didnt have drinks). Bottom line- if you love a good burger then you need to go to Nanny's. If you are impatient then order online and get take-away, or eat it outside while its fresh.
