Burger Culture, Run B.M.C - 6.5/10

Beef patty, cheese, pickles, tomato, lettuce, burger sauce - 13.5

Awesome to stumble across Burger Culture, while on a work trip in Nelson. Worked out how we were going to fit into our business schedule.

We made it work. Everything was falling into place. We got a cool, outside table. The service was good. Orders were taken and the food turned up pretty quick.

The burger looked great and was impressive on the plate. Then we ate!

The pattie was the most interesting thing about this burger. Canterbury Angus beef, ground in-house. Served medium-well, but you can get it cooked however you want (I went medium). The texture was just very different.  Almost like it had been sitting in marinade which made it extremely tender. No char. Different good?  Not sure.  I think I was wavering the other way.

Unfortunately it also lacked flavour. Fairly bland. Pickles didn't cut through. The burger sauce is pretty umami and tended to overpower. Not much else (ie mustard, ketchup) to balance it.

On the plus side, burger-ability was good. A good bun (house made daily) that held it all together. You could pick it up and it didn't spill everywhere.  Not too leaky.

Tim had the Baby Got Black, which came with bacon, confit onions and BBQ sauce on a black bun.  He was pretty happy with his choice so maybe just order that one if you do decide to go.

We also ordered the wings (hot), which was probably pushing our appetites a bit too far.  A solid portion  (full wing) and well priced. Either / or I think. Or only have one.  They were okay but not great.

All in all, I was slightly disappointed. Maybe my expectations were too high? I must admit I have marked them a bit hard seeing they are meant to specialise in burgers.

Have a go if you are in Nelson and let me know what you think!
